Cookie Policy

1. What this policy covers

This Cookie Policy explains how kinocriticblog.com (the “Website”), operated by Kristina Georgieva, Sofia, Bulgaria, uses cookies and similar technologies such as local storage, pixels and scripts. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy. It follows Directive 2002/58/EC (ePrivacy Directive), as implemented in Bulgarian law by the Electronic Communications Act, and the GDPR.

2. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device. They let a website recognise your device, remember your preferences, keep you logged in and, depending on the type, measure how the site is used or show content from other services. “First-party” cookies are set by the Website itself; “third-party” cookies are set by another company whose service is on our pages.

3. Your choice

We store or read information on your device in two ways:

  • Strictly necessary cookies are used without asking for your consent, because the Website cannot work properly or securely without them or because you asked for the service (Art. 5(3) ePrivacy Directive).
  • All other cookies (preferences, statistics, embedded third-party content such as social media) are used only after you give your consent through our cookie banner. You can accept or reject them equally easily, and you can change your mind at any time (see Section 6).

If you refuse optional cookies, the Website remains fully usable.

4. Cookies and similar technologies we use

[Before publishing, run a cookie scan of the live website (for example with your cookie consent plugin or a free scanner) and make sure this list matches what is actually set. The categories below reflect the features we found on the Website.]

4.1 Strictly necessary

  • Login and session cookies (WordPress) – for example names beginning with wordpress_, wordpress_logged_in_ and wp-settings-. They keep you signed in to your account, forum and profile and protect against unauthorised access. Typical duration: the session, or up to about 14 days if you choose “remember me”.
  • Test and security cookies – for example wordpress_test_cookie, which checks whether your browser accepts cookies. Typical duration: the session.
  • Consent cookie – stores your cookie choices so we do not ask you again on every page. Typical duration: [6–12] months.
  • Comment cookies – comment_author_ cookies that remember your name and email in the comment form are set only if you tick the box asking to save them, and are treated as a preference you have chosen. Typical duration: up to one year.

4.2 Preferences and functionality

  • Jetpack and WordPress.com features such as comment form and subscription features may store settings or an identifier on your device. Typical duration: up to one year. [Remove if not used.]

4.3 Statistics

  • Site statistics – Jetpack Stats (Automattic) collects information about how visitors use the Website (pages visited, time spent, country, device type). We use it only to improve the Website. [Jetpack Stats is designed to count visits without setting tracking cookies on visitors’ devices. Confirm this with your cookie scan; if any statistics cookie turns up, it must only load after consent.]

4.4 Embedded content and social media

  • Instagram (Meta Platforms) – our Instagram feed is shown on the Website. Loading it may let Instagram receive your IP address and set its own cookies, including when you are not logged in to Instagram. We load the feed only after you give consent. [If the feed is currently loaded without consent, either switch it to load after consent, or replace it with a plain image and a link to our Instagram page.]
  • Links to Letterboxd, FilmFreeway, CriticBridge and Revolut do not set cookies on our Website. These services apply their own cookie and privacy policies once you open them.
  • Images delivered through the WordPress.com content delivery network (Automattic) are loaded from a third-party server, which receives your IP address so that it can send the images. This is necessary to display the Website.

5. Third parties and transfers

Third-party providers that set cookies decide for themselves how those cookies work and are responsible for them. Some providers, such as Meta and Automattic, may process data in the United States, relying on the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses. Please see their cookie and privacy policies for details.

6. How to manage or withdraw your consent

  • On our Website: use the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of every page to reopen the banner and change your choices at any time. [Add this link to the footer.]
  • In your browser: you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and most browsers allow you to block third-party cookies. Instructions are available in the help section of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge and other browsers. Deleting cookies also removes your saved consent choice, so we will ask you again.
  • Social media and other providers: you can manage their cookies through their own privacy settings.

Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of what was done before you withdrew it. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop login and account features from working.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy when we change the technologies we use or when the law changes. The “Last updated” date shows the current version, and we will ask for your consent again where the law requires.
